Juice Box Pirate Ships

Save drink boxes and the straw that they come with.  If you want to make the ships fancier,  cover the drink boxes with contact paper that looks like wood.  Make a tiny hole in the  top of the drink box and stick the straw into the hole to make a mast.  Cut out a flag for each child.  Fold it on the dotted line, place the straw in the fold and tape in place.
Cut a piece of plastic milk jug or a piece of plastic disposable cup and tape it onto the straw for a sail.  Let the kids float the ships in a wading pool or water table.
Have the kids take a drinking straw and blow into the sail.  The ship will move.
It’s a great science project that teaches about wind.
